Columbia County Democratic Committee
As a committee person you, serve as the link between your democratic neighbors and the Committee, you measure your neighbors needs and opinions and share them with the fellow members of the committee. Members of the committee strengthen the party by registering new voters, urging their friends and neighbors to become active members, promote the policies and candidates of the Democratic Party, and solicit contributions for the local democratic organization. Committee members help recruit candidates for public office, introduce candidates to voters in their districts, distribute candidate information and leaflets, and circulate nomination petitions for Democratic Candidates.
"Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer."
John F. Kennedy
The Columbia County Democratic Committee, united in common purpose, dedicates itself to the Democratic Party’s core principals and ideals. The committee shall foster a grassroots community of people that is inclusive and accessible to all; facilitate increased Democratic participation in issues and elections; and advocate for the election of Democrats who will serve with competence, common sense, and compassion.
By Election day, the Committee Person has garnered volunteers to help them. The most important job is Poll watcher. Poll Watchers sit inside the polling place and check off democratic voters as they come in. This information is used throughout the day to remind potential voters where their polling place is, when it closes, or even that it is election day. You should also find a volunteer to drive voters who have no way to get to their polling place.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In Columbia County, the Democratic Party's organizational arm is the County Democratic Committee. Every four years, at the same time the Democrats select their candidate for Governor, Democratic electors in each election district also choose the Democrats they wish to represent them on the County Committee for the next four years. The number of Committee People in a district depends on the number of registered Democrats in that district.
